Since our previous trip (last year, year 2011, June) we have never entered into the territory of Balik Pulau together, especially to savor the heavenly good and tasty king of the fruits- Durian. Balik Pulau has a lot of hidden gems for one to discover, but due to its location, a lot haven't got the chance to have their first attempt yet. As for me, i always have 3 must-eat/ visit places whenever i visit Balik Pulau.
They are:
- Assam/ Curry Laksa at the corner coffee house of the junction to Balik Pulau
- Balik Pulau Market, for the pickled fruits/ prawn or fish crackers/ fresh fruits etc
- The legendary steamed Pao
Well there is still a Hokkien Mee at some random Kampung but i have no idea on where's the exact location, i just know it opens on weekends, some food are good at the market area too, but they are open during morning only. So yea, coincidentally (well it was planned, actually), it was durian season and we were thinking to organize another durian trip to balik pulau since Win Sam and Jia Wen are some serious fans of durians, so since i will be leaving to Perth real soon, I thought it would be great for us to have a final outing together before i come back too. 2 cars were used, car A (driver = me) has Shu Ling, Kin Yew and Jia Wen, whilst car B (driver = Win Sam) has Zhou Chen and Xiao Rong. There were a total 7 of us, Alvin could not make it due to resit paper thingy and Annie was still stuck in Taiping.
We first had Assam Laksa/ Curry Laksa, and grabbed ourselves some steaming hot Pao. Then, we headed back to the durian stalls beside the road which located right opposite to the wet market. We had 2 durians, one was some random no brand durian which costs us Rm 8 (2kgs) and a durian branded as 林凤乔 costs us Rm 25 (2.6kgs). Everyone was very satisfied with the quality. Win Sam bought 3 more durians back to his hometown too. :O
Just look at their happy faces. Its always good to have durian at balik pulau, guaranteed fresh, cheap and good. A lot of choices will be made available too.
As usual, how can an outing without some beautiful group photos right ? We headed to the flat land area where the Durian Festival will be held at. We grabbed the opportunity and took quite a lot of photos, tho it was kinda windy but the weather was kinda damp and hot for us. Everyone was like sweating and craving for some icy cold desserts :D
We headed to the newly opened Black Ball dessert outlet at D' Piazza right after that, never knew they have added some new desserts/flavors, tried their corn ice set but it was rather disappointing, the ice melted way too fast to my liking and too much Pearls were added, ended up it makes the whole bowl of dessert too bland. More internal control on this outlet please.
Food has never been enough as long as Ken is in Penang :D. We headed off to O' Briens for some quick sandwich shortly, we opted for the sandwich due to its opening promotion and it was really worth the value. Shu Ling, Win Sam and Jia Wen seemed to enjoy the sandwiches a lot.
After sending them back, we (Zhou Chen, Xiao Rong and me) headed off to Georgetown for our dinner, we did drop by during our trip to town to hunt for a nasi kandar stall too, but it was disappointing that the stall sells Malay style nasi kandar, Zhou Chen prefers Indian style which has more spices used and less coconut milk used. Dinner was at Hot Chilies, which said to offer some authentic and affordable Sze Chuan and Guang Dong cuisine. It was a decent meal but it was too oily for me (i had serious headache after that meal), tho it was not spicy at all, but it was too oily (somehow authentic as those China people living at that province eats a lot of oily stuff). Big thanks to them for treating me such scrumptious meal, total damages were like Rm 140 for the 3 of us, which i would said it was cheap, considering the portion and 5 dishes we ordered.
The Amazing Spiderman comes next, off we went to 1st Avenue for that movie. It was awesome, graphics and story line were good, i'll definitely watch again if i have the chance (too bad i won't apparently). Last outing is last outing, never get to meet them until they sent me off on Sunday. Take Care guys :D
